She then played the titular role in Stormskerry Maja (2024), a Finnish historical drama film adapted from Anni Blomqvist's book series. Early life and education

She was born in 1990 in Skärplinge, Uppsala County, Sweden.[1] She became interested in acting after seeing a production of Mio, My Son at the Royal Dramatic Theatre on a school trip in first grade.[2] She commuted to study drama at Vasaskolan, an upper secondary school in Gävle.[3] In 2009, she appeared in a school production of The Jungle Book.[4] After graduating, she worked for a year at the Forsmark Nuclear Power Plant.[5] Jansson then attended Fridhem Folk High School from 2011 to 2013, studying theatre.[6] After being accepted to the Luleå Theatre Academy, she participated in productions including a 2015 staging of Experimentet at Teater Tribunalen.[7] She graduated from the academy in 2016.[8]

Career

She had minor parts in Midnattssol (2016) and Rebecka Martinsson (2017) before being cast in the third season of The Restaurant (2019).[9]

Her first main role was in Thin Blue Line as Sara, a naïve Christian police officer who moves from Umeå to Malmö.[10] The first season premiered in January 2021 and became very popular in Sweden, with over a million viewers tuning in to view the programme.[11] It won Best TV Drama at Kristallen 2021 and received generally positive reviews from critics.[12] She reprised her role for two more seasons.[13] Although the third season was originally planned to be the final one, in September 2025 it was announced that she would be reprising her role as Sara once again for a Christmas special, consisting of four episodes, to be released at Christmas in 2026.[14]

In 2020, she was a member of the ensemble in Tårtljus at Playhouse Teater. In a review for Dagens Nyheter, Niklas Wahllöf cited Jansson's comic acting as a highlight.[15]

She appeared in Riding in Darkness, a 2022 limited series based on the 1991 case of an Ekerö riding instructor who was convicted of sexually abusing five teenage girls who worked or trained at his horse farm. Jansson's performance as Frida, a victim of the riding instructor's abuse who denies what happened to her, was cited as a standout by Wanda Bendjelloul in Dagens Nyheter.[16] In November 2023, she was awarded Gefle Dagblad's Culture Prize, in recognition of a "strong breakthrough in acting."[4]

Jansson played the titular lead in Stormskerry Maja (2024), a Finnish historical drama film adapted from Anni Blomqvist's book series.[17] To prepare for the role, she learned to speak in an Åland dialect, milk cows, clean fish, and spin yarn.[5] The film was nominated for nine Jussi Awards, winning six.[18] Jansson won the Jussi Award for Lead Actor of the Year.[19] She made her debut as a musical artist in 2024 (under the name of Ada) with "Ge mig ett svar." The song was featured on the third season of Thin Blue Line.[20]

She also starred in a stage adaptation of Karin Smirnoff's novel Jag for ner till bror at Teater Västernorrland. The production, with screenplay by Ivar Waldemarson and direction by Julia Marko-Nord, received critical acclaim. Particular praise was given to Jansson's performance.[21] It was announced later that year that she would be reprising her role as Jana Kippo in a television adaptation of Jag for ner till bror.[22] Released with an English title of My Brother, the series premiered on 26 December 2025.[23]

Personal life

Jansson lives in Gävle.[24] She signed a petition in 2024 advocating for more film and television productions to be filmed in Gävleborg County.[25]
