Elisa Kambu (born March 12, 1964) is an Indonesian politician who currently serves as the governor of Southwest Papua for the term 2025–2030.
Elisa previously served as the regent of Asmat for two terms, from 2016 to 2021 and 2021 to 2025.
Elisa Kambu completed his elementary education at SD YPK Arus Ayamaru in 1981. He then attended SMP Negeri Ayamaru for middle school, graduating in 1984, followed by high school at SMA Negeri 413 Sorong in 1987. Afterward, he earned a Bachelor of Social Sciences degree from Cenderawasih University in 1994.
Elisa Kambu ran for the position of regent of Asmat in the 2015 Asmat Regency Election, paired with Thomas Eppe Safanpo. The pair, with the ballot number 2, successfully defeated three other pairs, including the incumbent deputy regent of Asmat, Yulius Patandianan. Kambu and Safanpo won with 37,638 votes, which accounted for 53% of valid votes, surpassing Silvester Siforo and Yulius Patandianan, who received 26,586 votes (38%). Elisa Kambu and Thomas Eppe Safanpo were sworn in after the Indonesian Constitutional Court rejected the election dispute filed by Siforo and Patandianan in January 2016. Elisa Kambu officially became the second regent of Asmat, succeeding Yuvensius Alfonsius Biakai.[1]
In the 2020 Asmat Regency Election, Elisa Kambu and Thomas Eppe Safanpo ran again as candidates for Regent and Deputy Regent. They were supported by 9 political parties, including PDI Perjuangan, PKB, Gerindra, Golkar, NasDem, PKS, PSI, PAN, and Democratic Party. The pair was re-elected with 43,817 votes (55% of valid votes), while their only rival, the independent pair Yulianus Payzon Aituru and Bonifasius Jakfu, garnered 36,132 votes (45%). The election result was reaffirmed by the Indonesian Constitutional Court, which dismissed the election dispute filed by Aituru and Jakfu due to the margin of votes exceeding the 2% threshold. Elisa Kambu and Thomas Eppe Safanpo were inaugurated for their second term on 3 March 2021, by Lukas Enembe, Governor of Papua, in Jayapura.[2]
In the 2024 General Election (Pemilu 2024), Elisa Kambu was unable to run for re-election as the Regent of Asmat due to the two-term limit. However, there was widespread support for Elisa to run for Governor of Southwest Papua, especially as she was born in Ayamaru, Maybrat. On 23 January 2023, a Volunteer Team for Elisa Kambu was officially formed in Sorong to prepare for her candidacy in the 2024 Southwest Papua gubernatorial election.[3][4]
