ヒメオウムは、熱帯南アジアに生息する小型のオウム類であるロリクルス属に属する鳥類です。

体長約13cm（5.1インチ）のヒメオウムは、ほとんどが緑色の羽毛と短い尾を持っています。頭部の色は、個々の種を識別するのに役立つことがよくあります。^[1]鳥類の中では、逆さまに眠る能力を持つ点でユニークです。^[2]

分類

The genus Loriculus was introduced in 1849 by the English zoologist Edward Blyth for the blue-crowned hanging parrot.^[3][4] The name is a diminutive of the genus Lorius that was introduced by Nicholas Aylward Vigors for the lorys in 1825.^[5]
