Mara Alber (German: [ˈmaːʁa ˈalbɐ];[1] born 6 September 2005) is a German professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Bundesliga side Werder Bremen, on loan from Women's Super League club Chelsea, and the Germany under-23 national team.[2]
Career
Alber started playing football at the local multi-sports club TGV Dürrenzimmern. She then spent a year playing for TSG Hoffenheim's under-15s youth team before joining VfB Eppingen for three years. Afterwards, she spent a season each at FC Astoria Walldorf and SpVgg Neckarelz.
At the age of 15, Alber was signed by TSG Hoffenheim, for whose second team she would play from 2021 until 2023 in the 2. Bundesliga.[3] Three weeks before her 16th birthday, she made her senior debut in a 4–1 home win over SV Henstedt-Ulzburg on the first matchday and scored a brace.[citation needed] The German finished her debut season with seven goals in 18 appearances and repeated the exact same statistics the following year.[citation needed]
Alber made her Bundesliga debut for the first team in April 2022 during a 3–0 away win over Bayer Leverkusen, coming on as a late substitute.[4][citation needed] She played six Bundesliga games for the club the 2022–23 season.
In June 2025, Chelsea confirmed the signing of the one time Under-17 Golden boot winner on a four-year deal, officially running from 1 July 2025 through 30 June 2029.[5] The transfer involved an undisclosed but reportedly "considerable" fee, facilitated by an exit clause in her TSG Hoffenheim contract.
Alber returned to the Bundesliga in January 2026, joining Werder Bremen on loan until the end of the season.[6]
