ダーウェント・ラウル・ギャラード（1897年10月6日 - 1977年6月14日）は、ニュージーランドのクリケット選手であり、1918年から1942年までオークランドでファーストクラスのクリケットをプレーし、ニュージーランドがテストクリケットをプレーする前の時代にニュージーランドを代表していた。
幼少期とキャリア
ラウル・ギャラードは、一流クリケット選手であり教師でもあったチャールズ・ギャラードの長男であり、同じくニュージーランド代表としてクリケットをプレーしたウィルソン・ギャラードの兄弟でした。ラウルはヒースコート・ウィリアムズ・シールドで活躍したスクールボーイ・クリケット選手でした。[1]
「ボールに十分な回転」 [2]をかけたレッグスピナーであり、下位打者でも活躍したギャラードは、1917-18年にファーストクラスデビューを果たした。1918-19年の3試合目では、オープニングボウリングを務め、ウェリントンとのハイスコアマッチで143ランで6ラン、84ランで5ランを記録したが、オークランドが勝利した[3]。
1921-22年、彼はプランケット・シールドで3試合に出場し、平均10.34の成績で23ウィケットを獲得し、最多投手となった。 [4]オタゴ戦では35ウィケット3、24ウィケット4 、カンタベリー戦では30ウィケット1、51ウィケット8 、ウェリントン戦では46ウィケット4、52ウィケット3を獲得した。オークランドは3試合全てに勝利し、優勝を果たした。[5]

その後のキャリア
Garrard played little first-class cricket for the next nine seasons, concentrating on his career as an accountant. He had a practice in Auckland, also acting as a liquidator.[7] He was honorary auditor to the Auckland Cricket Association.[8] He married Edna McMaster in the Auckland suburb of Devonport in April 1927.[9]
When he returned to Plunket Shield cricket in 1932–33 at the age of 35 he took 13 wickets at an average of 16.92 in three matches, including 5 for 69 and 5 for 83 (and scored 55 in the second innings) in the match against Wellington.[10] But in the same match the 18-year-old Wellington leg-spinner Doug Freeman took 4 for 85 and 5 for 102, and when the Test team to play England was announced shortly afterwards, Freeman was preferred.[11]
Garrard had another good season in 1933–34, taking 14 wickets in the Plunket Shield at 22.14 and making 154 runs at 51.33, including his highest score of 67 not out against Otago. Auckland won the Shield.[12] He played a few more first-class matches before retiring.[13]
