Stanwyck E. Cromwell is a Guyanese-American visual artist based in Connecticut.
Cromwell was born in Georgetown, Guyana in 1948 to a father who was an artist and a mother who was a seamstress and fashion designer, both of whom he credits his talent to.[1] Cromwell attended Trinity Elementary School and the former British Guiana Educational Trust High School.
Cromwell moved to the United States in July 1970 and began pursuing a career in art. Cromwell attended Charter Oak State College and the University of Hartford, where he received his Master of Fine Arts degree.[2]
Cromwell's work often incorporates bright colors and a blend of Caribbean and American cultures. His mixed-media compositions incorporate overlapping shapes, textured strokes, and vibrant colors. His work frequently features symbolic imagery and reflections of African-American features and culture.[3]
Cromwell has also served as an artist-in-residence at the University of Connecticut and University of Hartford, and currently serves as an adjunct art professor at Capital Community College in Hartford.[4]
