Trip to the Moon (Spanish: Viaje a la luna) is a 1958 Mexican comedy film directed by Fernando Cortés, featuring Kitty de Hoyos, and an ensemble cast of comedians such as Sergio Corona, Alfonso Arau, Germán Valdés (Tin-Tan), Viruta and Capulina, Manuel 'Loco' Valdés, Fannie Kauffman 'Vitola', Leopoldo 'Polo' Ortin,Joaquín García Vargas 'Borolas', Ramiro Gamboa 'Tio Gamboin' and Xavier López 'Chabelo'.[1][2]
The film is set in a mental asylum, where a group of patients imagines themselves embarking on a journey to the Moon. The patients, trapped in their delusions, create an elaborate fantasy of space exploration, blurring the lines between reality and imagination. The film combines humor, absurdity, and surrealism, exploring themes of escapism, mental illness, and the power of the mind. It has multiple references to the classic film Le Voyage dans la Lune (1902) by Georges Méliès.[1][3][4]
