Litera is an American software corporation headquartered in Chicago, Illinois.[4] They create and license productivity and risk management software aimed at law firms.[4] In December 2009, Litera acquired Softwise Inc. in its biggest acquisition to date.[5] The company acquired CitationWare LLC in 2011.[6] In 2019 Litera acquired competing fileshare company Workshare.[7]
Litera sells documentation automation platforms, server-based document metadata cleaner, PDF editor and binders, Table of Authorities generators, email encryption software, and multiple collaboration platforms.[8][9][10]
Litera One is the company’s unified platform for drafting, contract review, and firm analytics.[11] In July 2025, Litera announced the introduction of Lito, a new AI agent integrated into the Litera One platform. The agent is designed to perform multi-step tasks within the system, responding to natural-language requests by selecting the appropriate tools and completing tasks on behalf of users.[11]
