ピーター・ル・ネーヴ・フォスター

ピーター・ル・ネーヴ・フォスター（1809–1879）は、イギリスの法廷弁護士であり数学者でもありました。彼は王立芸術協会の革新的な事務局長として、またカロタイプ・クラブの先駆的な写真家として知られています。^{[ 1 ]}

人生

1809年8月17日、ノーフォーク州レンウェイド出身のピーター・ル・ネーヴ・フォスターの息子として生まれた。ノーリッチ・グラマー・スクールでエドワード・ヴァルピー博士の指導の下、教育を受けた。ケンブリッジ大学トリニティ・ホールに進学し、 1830年に数学トリポスを卒業し、カレッジのフェローに選出された。^{[ 2 ]}

1836年、フォスターは弁護士資格を取得し、不動産譲渡人として活動した。1853年、ジョージ・グローブの後任として美術協会の事務局長に就任し、終身その職を務めた。ヘンリー・コール、チャールズ・ウェントワース・ディルケらと共に、 1851年の万国博覧会とその後継となる1862年の万国博覧会の組織運営に深く関わった。また、それ以前の海外で開催された博覧会にもいくつか携わっていた。^{[ 2 ]}

フォスターは初期のアマチュア写真家であり、写真協会の創設者の一人であった。^{[ 2 ]}ロジャー・フェントンと共に、1852年に芸術協会主催の初の写真展を企画した。^{[ 1 ]}彼は英国協会の機械科学部門の書記を13年間務めた。1869年にはクェケット顕微鏡クラブの会長を務めた。1879年2月21日、サリー州ワンズワースで亡くなった。^{[ 2 ]}

作品

フォスターは科学技術雑誌の寄稿者であり、美術協会誌にも多くの論文を寄稿したが、その多くは匿名であった。彼は協会で2本の論文を発表しており、1本は「アルミニウム」（1859年）について、もう1本は「電気織機」（1860年）についてであった。^{[ 2 ]}
